After 12 years in the Navy as an Air Traffic Controller and 27 years as an educator, I retired and have refocused my life to concentrate on my art. I am on a Journey Back to My Artistic Self! My life goal is to create a one-of-a-kind journey by expressing her own personal, unique, and authentic perspective in her paintings. I am enjoying furthering my learning in the arts and associating with others who also appreciate the value of the arts.

Fall 2023
The photo I used for this painting was taken on a trip to the Maroon Bells, near Aspen, Colorado. My daughter Kara loves Aspen trees and I wanted to get some good pictures to paint from this Fall. This particular painting, Nature Calling, is special to be because I used a palette knife for the first time to paint most of this picture. I love the knife and lost myself in the process of loading up the palette knife with paint and applying it to the canvas! So much enjoyment from a simple art tool.
Summer 2023 – getting back to oil painting.
Pablo Picasso is one of my favorite artist to study and I love the quote from my Artwork from My Past page, “Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up”. Many of us have a gap of time from when we pursued our art studies diligently, then “toke a break” to have a family and work outside of the art world as a matter of necessity. Next thing we knew, its 30 years later, and we have a stack of partially finished paintings and old, stall art supplies. That was my story too, but a major car accident last year had me re-evaluating my life and my life-long dreams of being an artist. I realize that “some day” was TODAY and if I was going to realize my dream, it was time to change careers and take the plunge. I retired from education and find myself in the beautiful Colorado Springs painting, drawing, participating in the Pikes Peak Arts Council and other clubs, taking art classes and basically loving my life!
